With all the colorful, inspirational quilting books on the market, those old quilting instruction books on the public library shelf can look very unimaginative. In an enthusiastic first effort, Landman, curator of the Museum Quilts Gallery in London, and illustrator Brown produce a vibrant and exciting how-to book. Bright drawings make the instructions very clear, and the effective arrangement ably coordinates text and illustrations. Though the basics may be "traditional," not all of the dozen projects included here can be considered so. If you are in need of traditional quilting projects, try Quilts! Quilts!! Quilts!!! (Quilt Digest Pr., 1989), Quilts Galore! (Quilts Digest Pr., 1990), or Quilts, Quilts, and More Quilts (C&T Pub., 1993), all by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes. If you are in need of basic, but attractive, quilting instructional material with the occasional unconventional twist, this is it. Highly recommended for public libraries.
